Meaning of "would" here?

Hye everyone! could you please help me by telling ,what does "would" mean here?
I read it today in the novel "Good bye Mr Chips"
Situation-;Mr chips wife has died 14 years ago,now a man meets chips and say "I had seen your wife once but
I remember very well, where is She?"
Chips-;"Do you! (Chips answered eagerly)
"Do you remember her?"
Man-; "Rather I should think anyone would"
What is the meaning of would here? ,Can you explain me please?

It means that anyone would remember his wife - no matter how long ago it was (even 14 years) - because she probably had some special characteristic that made it difficult to forget her.
