Meaning of 'took off' here

Is that okay to say ' I will refund you the amount they took off from you"
Or like
'I will refund you the amount they made away with'
Does both of the sentences sound natural to native ears ?

I searched over the internet and came across this ' make way with' idiom here http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/make+away+with
so according to that, my sentence is natural, isn't it ?
How did you find it unnatural please explain it to me.

Consider.
eg If Tom refunds Mary, it means that Mary gave money to Tom and he now returns it to her.
For example, a store may refund a dissatisfied customer.

A very simple way to state your meaning is this.
