meaning of : ton

Matthew Hayden fell to Ishant Sharma after cracking a blazing ton at the Adelaide Oval. Along with Phil Jaques, Hayden added 159 runs for the opening wicket before Anil Kumble cleaned up Jaques soon after lunch. Earlier, left-arm pacer RP Singh was ruled out for the third day's play with a hamstring injury.

I can understand "ton" means century in this context, but I really don't know in what sense the word "ton" has been used in this context. Please you help me with this.

In other cases, it just means a lot, eg 'There were a ton (or 'tons of') people at the party.'
