Meaning of Three Vegetables.

Hi,

What does it mean, if someone says, "three vegetables."? Does it mean, three kinds of vegetables? or could it mean like, "a carrot and two onions"? Depends on the context?

Similarly, what do "three fruits" mean? I know fruit is a uncountable noun but I am wondering if I could say that to mean, "three kinds of fruit."

Thank you,
M
