Meaning of "Thousand Dollars ago"

Hello. I would be very thankful if someone explain to me what it means. I've seen it in a movie and i quote:
-That's the worst advice you've ever given me, Dad.
-That's not true. I told you to take ballet *$5,000 ago*.
