Meaning of the verb 'held'

hi teachers.

A housewarming party is a party held on the ocassion of moving into a new residence.
Does the verb 'held' here means 'gave' or 'offered' in this context.

given is a fairly good paraphrase, even though it's not idiomatic to say "to give a party". You "have a party" or "hold a party", or to suggest a wilder party in slang, you "throw a party". Tho
