Meaning of the sencetence

Could anyone please help with a meaning of this very sentence:

(Though the foolish mind is a vessel unfit to receive it [instruction]), Forgetfulness compels this attempt at a partial account.

It is a part of a philosophical poem. I understand the first verse but do not undestand the second one.
