Meaning of the 'food sufficient society'

I've found following sentence from a documentary. Please someone tell me what is the meaning of the 'food sufficient society'.

Out country kind of a leg up that we are a food sufficient society.

In actual fact, I tried to find the answer through google search, but I couldn't find that. That's why I just thought I would ask this question on this website, though this is just a vocabulary related question. However, I can guess that the meaning is that country has sufficient amount of food to survive, though I'm not 100% sure about it.

That makes no sense to me. It's not a proper sentence.
