Meaning of "Stay in touch!"

Hi!

What does it mean if an English man (from the States, around 35) ends an email with "Stay in touch!". In this email itself he has not written much else except thanking me for some things I have sent him.

Is is just a different way of saying "goodbye" but nothing more? Thanks a lot for your help.

Really yes. Stay in touch is something you say to people that aren't friends but may become friends. It can be a habit which is then the meaning you suggested.
