Hi, In a novel of O'connor, the violent bear it away, in somewhere among the story a knot of small boys begin to sing a sang about a man who has forgotten his shoes and say: “Hi yo Silverwear, Tonto's lost his underwear! What in the heck do we care? " It refers to The lone renger show but in that show the name of the lone ranger's stallion was Silver, then why here they say Silverwear? What does "wear" mean here in combination with Silver?
Top answer
It's probably an allusion to silver ware , the instruments we eat with, added here for poetic license to rhyme with care .

May it mean "wearing" here? for the main idea is that the man's lost his shoes. So maybe O'connor wanted change the horse to a man who is wearing a silver suit. Not?
