Meaning of shade of blue and made of colored light?

Hi,

Could you please tell me what is the meaning of "shade of blue" and "made of colored light" in the following text?

Amos Decker would forever remember all three violent deaths in the most paralyzing shade of blue. It would cut into him at unpredictable moments, like a gutting knife made of colored light.

Thanks

I can't see why the writer has used that metaphor. I know all the words, but I can't make sense of it. Anyway, a shade of a color is that color with a certain saturation, hue and lightness.

  • For some reason, Amos's memory conjures a blade made of it.

This is figurative language. I associate blue with death because dead people often turn a shade of blue, especially the lips. That is rather unpleasant. Regarding the knife, it is made of metal and shines when light hits it, so we could imagine the knife flashing as it cuts into the person. It isn't really cutting the person; the person feels a sharp pain throughout his/her body upon viewing t
