Meaning of "say much for"

Hi,

Could you tell me the meaning of "say much for" in contexts as this one:

"I knew it all along" Chmura said later, as the Monica Lewinsky scandal broke. " It doesn't really say much for society and the morals Bill Clinton sets forth for our children."

I guess it means something along the lines of "it doesn't speak well of" ?

Thanks !

MrPernickety I guess it means something along the lines of "it doesn't speak well of" ? You've pretty much got it. Here are a couple of other variations: "reflects badly on", "makes it look bad" depending on context it can mean anything along these lines.

I don't really disagree, but you may note that all of the proposed "synonyms" involve a negative value word - something not found in the original. Somehow with this expression I get the sense of absense, or sadness, more than of condemnation.
