Since I wrote it I guess I'd better defend it. "Dip a little bit of the liquid out of/into the bucket." I probably learned it from my mother.
My American Heritage Dict. says, 6. To scoop up by plunging the hand or a container into and out of a liquid; to bail; ladle. (Bail and ladle are two more verb synonyms for get/take the water fro
