Meaning of "Punches on R"

Hi all,

I'm translating a website. Do you have any idea of the parts I underlined?

Congrats to this year's TRX 40/40 challenge winners, many tried but only handful completed the challenge: Jason Smith, Darren Kamuischer, Antonio Strevay, Chad Benedict and Zahi Nahaon. Way to go guys! We also had a few people attempt our new TRX Rip Training 40/40/40 challenge (40 seconds of Punches on R, 40 seconds rest, 40 seconds of Punches on L). There were not any winners but those that came close, took home a free TRX T-shirt. Also let's hear it for Kjetil Loyning, from The Alaska Club East; he won a free TRX Suspension Trainer™ in our booth raffle drawing. Check out a few of our TRX 40/40 Challenge winners below.

I'd already check the vid but couldn't figure it out. Too many things are going on it. So my best guess is, "punchs on

R" is swings from the right side?

R and L are probably right and left, as Mr. M. has already said.

I still cannot figure it out. Punch is not bothering me. You made it clear, their punches are the same of ours, the Japanese, though we say, panch.

What bothering me is, "on." Prepositions are ambiguous to me when I can't guess it from contents. Does "on right" mean with his right hand, or onto the target or something in front of his right side?

You take prepositions too much too heart. There natural use is more important than their meaning. The person training just punches with his right hand and with his left hand; since he has a stick in his hand the direction of the punch is pretty much determined, but even if it weren't, you need to use some common sense when deciding (if it is even important) exactly which direction the punches go

Not knowing anything about this TRX thing, I'd assume it meant "with the right hand".

which I haven't thoutht about much before, and maybe that's why I'm kind of too sensitive today.

Too many books! There is no important or even useful difference among those sentences: they all mean 'I am a Sony employee'. Any prescriptive book that diddles you around like that should be brought to 451 ° F.
