meaning of : prize scalp, going all out to gain the upper hand

The first session of the final day of the series saw India and Australia going all out to gain the upper hand. A critical injury, a blazing hundred and a prize scalp, the two hours of play witnessed it all at the Adelaide Oval.

Please explain the emboldened parts to me. I can't understand the meaning of "scalp" in the dictionary.
