On Facebook, he poked me.

What is the meaning of that "poke"? I couldn't find it in my dictionary.

Thank you in advance for your teaching.

Poke means to touch someone suddenly (and usually hard enough that they feel it) with a pointed object such as a finger or a stick. It is usually a bad kind of touch. Don't poke your brother in the eye!

Ah! I see! Then, since he wanted to know whether I was on Facebook or not, he poked me. Right? Thank you for your teaching, Ms AlpheccaStars

Yes. If you see someone sleeping, poke them in the ribs and they will wake up.
Poke is a Facebook term, too.
I don't like the way they are using it, because poking someone is usually impolite. I don't think they mean it that way. It's OK to poke someo
