Meaning of 'Pitch'

Hi, I was reading Huffpost and found these 2 consecutive paragraphs.

Can someone help me understand the meanings of 'pitch' in these 2 different paragraph?

First one seems to mean 'start', 'launch', but I am not very sure. I don't know what the 2nd paragraph pitch means.

Thank you!!
