Meaning of Part

The passage below is from Commenter “yellojkt” on the Washington Post blog.

A fourteenth-century Franciscan monk and philosopher, William of Occam, gives us the Occam part, and it’s called his razor because the idea is to shave away complexity. Although William heartily subscribed to the theory we now call Occam’s razor and used it often in his writings and debates, philosophy scholars say the idea existed well before him and it isn’t stated as succinctly in his writings as we think of it today.

What I want to ask is what is the meaning of the underliend PART.

I know that ‘a part’ means ‘a separate piece of something’ but I don’t think that meaning fits well in this context, but I’m not sure of it.

Can you give me it’s exact meaning and, if you can, show another example usage for me?

Thanks in advance.
