He took us to his country house over many weekends.

What does 'over' mean here? Does it mean 'on many weekends'?

Is the meaning corresponding to 'He took us...many times'?

Can we write or say the sentence omitting 'over' i.e. 'He took us to his country house many weekends' ( in consistent with 'he took us...many time'?
