Meaning of offset
Hi,
I looked up "offset" in my dictionary to figure out the apropriate meaning, but there are lots of meaning as verb for "offset" and none of the meaning makes sense in the following sentence.
Notes, tips, hints, tricks, and asides to the current discussion are offset and placed in italics like this.
Could anyone please explain the meaning of "offset"?

Here, 'offset' refers to layout of the written page: the 'notes, etc', are set farther to the right of the left margin than the main text is, or set in the margin, or partially in the margin, outside the main text.
