Meaning of "kind of"

Ex1) They all jut kind of sober up, and they fold everything up and put it in the garbage.
Ex2) He kind of comes around to us.
EX3) That kind of was the doorway to being interested in Japan
Ex4) I was kind of economic refugee
Ex5) The technological aspects are kind of what I was expecting more of

I'm watching a documentary now. Sometimes I couldn't guess what "kind of" they are speaking mean. They are so often using "kind of" "kind of". Could you help me to understand what "kind of" mean in the sentences above?

Q1)
I think "kind of" among Ex3,Ex4, and Ex5 mean "a kind of",is it correct?
Q2)
Among Ex1 and Ex2, I guess the mean " look or seem", is it correct?

"Kind of" (and "sort of") means "rather", "to some degree", "in some way" or "somewhat" . These are very overused (misused) expressions, and used to modify words, phrases, or even parts of sentences.
