Meaning of it was a stretch?

Hi,

Could you please tell me what is the meaning of a stretch in the following text?

I gave a hundred thousand dollars to Judge McElwayne, and it was a stretch. I'll do the same for Judge McCarthy.

Please note that the context is about a campaign.

Thanks
