A pet peeve is something that annoys a person very much. It could be something minor (unimportant) or something quite serious. Sometimes we have a pet peeve that is with us for a while and then doesn't bother us so much anymore. It could be some fad or trend that we think is silly.

My pet peeve is people physically showing quotation marks in the air ("air quotes").
My pet peeve is that people get into the express checkout line at the store with more than 15 items.
My pet peeve is that people put happy faces on everything they write

My pet peeve is the poor excuse for rhyming in many popular songs.

My pet peeve is that students need to get a job, but they can't get a job if they don't have experience. Yet they can't get experience because no one will hire them since they don't have experience!
