Meaning of "how"

Given the sentence:

Disgusted that the Slytherins had lost, he had tried to get everyone laughing at how a wide-mouthed tree frog would be replacing Harry as Seeker next.

It’s very hard to understand when ‘how’ is used in a sentence. I guess that the sentence can be replaced as ‘Disgusted that the Slytherins had lost, he had tried to get everyone laughing at THAT a wide-mouthed tree frog would be replacing Harry as Seeker next VERY WELL.’ Can this be right? Would you explain more about the how?
