Meaning of 'got'

I've found following sentence on a website. However, what confuses me is the usage of 'got', though from the context I could guess that it might be passive construction. Please someone tell me whether the meaning of 'got' in the following sentence is similar to 'were'.

I got told just to leave my anxiety at the door.
