Meaning of "good case"

Hi,

I came across a sentence along the lines of this one:

We talked a good case about his car.

Could you tell me what "a good case" is supposed to mean? My educated guess would be "a great deal".

Thanks !

Hi Alex The wording of that sentence doesn't seem completely natural to me. Maybe additional context would help, and possibly you've run into a creative usage. In the context of your sentence, the commonly used collocation "a good case" suggests that someone was speaking persuasively -- in order to sell the car, for example.

  • To me, " talked a good case about " seems to suggest "presented effective arguments in favor of", but the wording strikes me as unusual.
  • It would sound more typical to say " made a good case for ".
