Meaning of "go it alone"

Hi, everybody !

I saw a sentence along the lines of "her parents passed on, she became an orphan and had to go it alone"

It is my understanding that "go it along" means "live your life on your own, with no help from the outside"

Am I correct ?

Thanks !
