Meaning of finish their championship

Hi..guys
I don't understand the sentence at the bottom.
First, "finish their championship"..
"finish" has two meanings. one is " to complete ", the other is " to reach or end up in a certain position or situation"
Does it mean "complete the competition" or win the championship in the sentence at the bottom?

finally, if finished, to show in the Best of Breed class as a "special".
Does it mean "to show as a winner after the competition"
Please answer two questions.
Thank you for reading..

<Handlers are hired by dog owners or breeders to finish their championship, or if finished, to show in the Best of Breed class as a "special".>

Hi Darcy, I don't know a lot about dog shows, but dogs become champions (as I understand it) by acquiring a certain number of points in various dog shows. " Breeders can seel the puppies of champion dogs for a lot more money than just regular dogs. Unlike, for example, a basketball league, where on team is the champion for that year, and then it starts again the next year, dogs are designated "champions" as a type of rank.

  • Again, this is my understanding, and I may be quite wrong.
  • You can google around for the AKC and dog shows and see if I'm on the right track, but assuming I am, this sentence says that the handler is responsible for making sure the dog competes in the right shows to be designated a champion.

Hi Darcy,

I don't know a lot about dog shows, but dogs become champions (as I understand it) by acquiring a certain number of points in various dog shows. For people in the show-dog world, it's important for a dog to achieve this status of "champion." Breeders can seel the puppies of champion dogs for a lot more money than just regular dogs.
