Meaning of figure and flight

I have two questions. Please answer me..

1) What is the meaning of ' in the figure' in the follwing sentence?
"Let those sound groups floating on the wavy river in the figure flow downhill "

2) What is the meaning of ' flight' in the follwing sentence?
"In saying your words, imagine that they come out as if they were bounding lightly down a flight of stairs."
