Meaning of "due to be"

I found the following sentence from one of a books that I've recently read. Please someone tell me what is the meaning of "due to be" in the following sentence. In actual fact, this is the first time that I've ever seen such construction, despite the prevent usage of "due to the".

We wanted a new stadium because the 1950s football stadium is on the other side of town and is shortly due to be pulled down and built over.
