Meaning of "crib sheet"

Hi,

I am interested in knowing the usage of "crib sheet" from an American native speaker's standpoint.

A British person described it as "A crib sheet is a piece of paper the a student smuggles in to an exam with his notes written on it to help him", but I'm in doubt as to whether it retains the same meaning on the other side of the pond.

If it does not, could you tip me off to a term(s) with the same idea that you have in common use

We use the exact same expression, Mr. Pernickety We also use "crib" as a verb in that sense. I'm sure he cribbed the answers to the multiple choice part of the test.

Hi,

I've also heard people use the term 'cheat sheet' a lot, which perhaps appeals because it rhymes.

You must keep in mind, of course, that none of us here has ever used one, even though we may be aware of other terms for a crib. I seem to remember the use of "pony" for the same thing.
