Meaning of 'celebrate'?

Hello everyone this is Raymond.
I read an article by Mark Zuckerberg this morning and he wrote,

'We will find a way to permanently honor Josef’s legacy at Facebook soon. For now, let’s remember and celebrate the passing of a great friend, devoted mentor and inspirational leader.'

I just can't get what 'celebrate' means here.
Could someone explain this to me please?
Thanks in advance Emotion: smile

But usually we don't 'celebrate' someone that has passed away right? (because it sounds weird

That's the general idea.

Think of it as-
celebrate his life
celebrate the fact that he existed
celebrate the good things that he did

Be happy that he lived, instead of sad that he died.
