Vocabulary

meaning of briefs

Does "briefs" here eman "instructions that what participants should do" or "Dyer's reference to participants" or "what the participants do"?

Dyer raises several key points within the compressed space of the quoted extract. For one: his reference to flash mobs.... Some briefs to participants are highly imaginative and their effects resonate far beyond the spatio-temporal parameters of the event itself, others simply fizzle out without consequence.

Hi I think the event has, to some extent, been arranged or choreographed by the organiser. The way to do that would be to give participants a written instruction: at what moment to take part, what kind of movement to make and so on The instruction would be referred to as a 'brief'. In other contexts, such a thing is given to lawyers before a court case, or to people at a briefing meeting That's my understanding Dave

Thank you @dave_anon. Another question about the following full context. Does the highlighted section mean "although the idea behind flash mobs is awesome, they have different types in what is prescribed to do or what is done in them"? but it does not make sense.

Hi

I think that is about right. I might write something like:

- The idea behind flash mobs is awesome but there are different types - with regard to what is prescribed to do or what is done in them

Some events might be very simple and the people just need to discuss it and then proceed. Others will be more complicated and the participants will have a script or a writte
