meaning of arriviste

What's the meaning of arrivistes in this context?
I've looked up many dictionaries but couldn't find a meaning that can match the contex.

essentially is this context arrivistes means that these great avant-garde artists for all their achievements were essentially not widely accepted--outsiders, which, by the way, I think it is a compliment to their art! After all, great artist challenge! hope this is helpful
