Meaning of a head chapter, the INFERNAL PRESS

Meaning of a head chapter, the INFERNAL PRESS

I met this phrase, ‘the INFERNAL PRESS’ in a book, The Library: A Fragile History by Andrew Pettegree.

But it is not in a paragraph. It is just a head chapter. So I think ‘the INFERNAL PRESS’ seems to summarize several paragraphs following it.

Let me summerize them for you.

The content associated with this head chapter ‘the INFERNAL PRESS’ is as follows: Since the invention of the press by Gutenberg the medieval manuscript collection of the European leaders and elites became neglected and devastated since it has lost its charm when common people can amass their own collection.

I am not sure I explain it properly, but that’s all I could do.

Literally ‘infernal’ generally means ? of hell’ or ? diabolical or ? abominable.

And ‘press’ literally means ? a printing press ? a publishing place ? a publishing company.

With all of this study I cannot figure out the meaning of the phrase.

I also did some googling. It shows that the name of a publishing company is INFERNAL PRESS. So that makes me think ‘INFERNAL PRESS’ has some profound meaning to be the name of a publishing company but that I don’t know of. (Am I right? If it is can you tell me what it is.)

Once again, with all of this study I still cannot pinpoint the meaning of the phrase.

Could you help me on this obscure but sorry-but-that’s-all-I-can-present question?

Thanks in advance.
