Meaning for: "A need for B"

Hi everyone,

Could someone explain the meaning of the following please? It is about horror movies. Person A says horror movies are stupid and childish because it is ridiculous to walk into a house if something is suspicious in there. So person B says:

I know what you mean but "they need for the characters to do that!"

Does it mean it is necessary for the characters to walk into the house (to create horror effects)?

Any opinion is appreciated! Thanks!!
