Hi, would you please tell me what is the meaning of "The few killers who attempted to come to grips with their carnage did so from a prison cell" in the following text;

The demons that drove them ( serial killers) were restless and cruel and could never be exorcised. They could be neutralized by death or incarceration, but nothing else. The few killers who attempted to come to grips with their carnage did so from a prison cell.
