Meaning?

Hi, would you please tell me what is the meaning of "the tears were shed" in the following texts:

1- McCarthy shook his head in amusement. "You 're not going to allow Mr. Schlichtmann any second thoughts after he's shed his tears, right, Judge?"

2- The judge, amused, rejected McCarthy's motion. " You said there'd be no second thoughts after the tears were shed."
