Hi, what is the meaning of "as the clock seemed to stop " in the following text?

The waitress poured champaign and took their orders. They toasted the new contract again as the clock seemed to stop.

It strikes me as a way of saying that it was a moment that they would not soon forget. I'm not sure.

But I am sure that Grisham wouldn't have misspelled "champagne".
