Meaning?

Hi, What is the meaning of walls closed in quickly in the following text?

it had been a pleasant place to come home to from college, with hot food on the stove, a fire in the winter, and Florry with all her eccentricities and animals, but she was such a large presence that the walls closed in quickly. Thanks

The place would become claustrophobic (the walls would seem to move inward) after a while, with the overly enthusiastic Florry - and all her animals - constantly around. You would long to get out of there.
