Meaning

could you help to understand the meaning of the underlined parts? and I would appreciate if you could tell me the short form and the result of the whole paragraph. "We hypothesize that although most CI users will score well in temporal psychophysics tasks, their beat perception will be compromised. Beat accentuation most often involves changes in sound amplitude, and/or pitch – the encoding of which is qualitatively dissimilar in CI users when compared to those with normal hearing. For example, dynamic range is dramatically compressed in CI users (10-20 dB compared to 120 dB with acoustic hearing), while pitch discrimination thresholds can be as large as 2 octaves, suggesting these cues may be unusable. Thus, we will explore how beat perception is altered in both CI users and controls by manipulating acoustic features that may be better represented by CIs, such as the modulation depth of an amplitude-modulated sound (the envelope of which would provide beat accentuation, and which would be well preserved by a CI), and re-testing using altered stimuli."

It's rather technical.
