What is the meaning of "popularity contest" in the following text:
As a law clerk, Koh recalled similar vitriol (in the hate mail)flooding Blackmun,s chambers, mostly over Roe v. wade." I try not to let it affect me ," Blackmun had sighed."Just remember: the law is not a popularity contest.
Please note that in the text Blackmun is a justice at supreme court.
