Meaning?

Hi. What is the meaning of " traveling display" and " the AIDS guilt" in the following text:

The tail end of an era of panic and desperation, of angry protests by ACT UP radicals, the traveling display of the AIDS guilt ......

Furthermore could you please tell me that the angry protests by ACT UP radicals means protest in favor or against the AIDS people?

I believe there is a typo there. It should be "the traveling display of the AIDS quilt". In the early years of the AIDS epidemic, a large quilt was made that had something like one square for each AIDS victims.
