Meaning?

Hi,

What is the meaning of" I thought you were going to do something" in the following text?

He started with the safest, most conservative option available, a prestigious private law firm in Washington, but found the drudgery of corporate litigation unbearable and soon left. It was a move his wife had recommended at the outset. "I thought you were going to do something,"she 'd said acidly when he first mentioned the firm.

Thanks
