Meaning

Hello friends,
Would you please tell me about the meaning of bold part?

Cars are his servants, she thought.
“Power steering? Automatic transmission?” she said.
“You bet,” he said.
“Well, what if everything shuts off and you don’t have any gears to shift. You’d be in trouble then, wouldn’t you?”
“But everything won’t shut off.”
“How do you know?”
“That’s what faith is. Come here.”
Faith in General Motors. She put her head on his shoulder.

Thank you

Yes I did. I was wondering about "come here"! I think he wanted to show sth that it's written on "faith in general motors." but I'm not sure.

Ah, yes. I see what you mean.

The meaning of the bold doesn't contain any idioms. What you said seems reasonable. He asks her to approach him and look at what I guess is a brochure or advertisement for a Ford automobile. 'Faith' means faith in the modern technology of power steering and automatic transmission—belief that they are reliable.

My interpretation.

"That's what faith is." "Come here (and I'll give you a comforting hug)."
Faith in General Motors, she thought. Strange view of faith. (Resigned to accept his view,)
