Hi everybody,
What is the meaning of "You don't sound convinced of that,"in the following context:
"And I have to say I'm still not clear on the agenda.Where do you want this to go?"
The man stretched his bony arms."Where?To the truth.I suppose."
The other man said warily"You don't sound convinced of that".

I don't have any problem as to the meaning of the words taking them separately.What I don't understand is the concept.Why he doesn't sound convinced of that?.What has made the other person to believe and come to this conclusion that he doesn't sound convinced of that?It seems that there is nothing in the conversation to that effect either.I appreciate your further remarks.

Presumably something in the man's tone of voice, facial expression or body language led the other person to infer a lack of conviction on his part. We cannot tell from just the words you gave us.
