Meaning

Hello,

Such usage is now widely regarded as acceptable in all but the most formal writing.

I am not able to understand the meaning of this sentence, specially after "but".

Does it mean "Such usage is now widely regarded as acceptable in all " but "such usage is not acceptable in the the most formal writing"

Could any one here make it clear?
Thanks.
