Vocabulary

meaning

Hi
Please tell me what this means in the context.
".....I hurried to school as fast as I could when a blacksmith reading a bulletin board called after me, "Don't go so fast, bub; you'll get to your school in plenty of time. I thought he was making fun of me."
I guess this is a sarcastic comment meaning he is going to be very late.

Hi, in plenty of time means you won't be late, you'll be early. I see nothing in the context that suggests this is said as sarcasm. Clive

Further the boy was hurrying as it was already late for school. I am sorry I did not mention this.
There is yet another line which tells he was late.
"I counted on the commotion in the class to go to my place without anyone noticing me but surprisingly there was absolute silence;eve

Hi,

Maybe.

Why was a blacksmith reading a bulletin board ? That phrase seems a bit odd to me.

Hi Clive
Thank you for your help.
About bulletin board....
The people in that town came to know all that was happening in and around their place by reading it. It was probably in the center of the town. The story was set in a time when colonization was common.

I had the same problem as Clive. "Bulletin board" seemed anachronistic, like Columbus checking his radar. The trouble is, the act
