When topiary was going out of fashion in the eighteenth century, Alexander Pope satirically referred to "ST. George in box, his arm scarce long enough, but / will be in a condition to stick the dragon by next April."
In the above paragraph, can I parapharse the bold part like this? -> ST. George is in the shape of a box, and his arm is too short.
I thinks box here means both the tree of topiary and the shape of St. George. Do I understand this right?
Thanks in advance.
