Can somebody help me please? I have an excerpt here,

Tien Pao saw the airman swimming under water. The airman angled off with the current toward a big branch floating down the middle of the river. The current took him away, and then he was gone from sight.

What does "angled off with the current" here mean?
Does the airman went in the same direction as the flow of the water or against it?

I thank you very much for helping me

Regards,
Davi

davi_sukses1986 Does the airman went in the same direction as the flow of the water or against it? Yes, his intention was to swim as he wanted to, but he had to swiw against the stream, which made him move angularly relatively his main way.
